There are three areas that the United States International Trade Commission will look into when it investigates a trade challenge launched by the North Dakota Wheat Commission.
- It will survey U.S. wheat buyers, including millers, about the wheat board’s sales practices over the past five years.
- It will survey wheat buyers in several foreign markets about the degree and manner of competition between Canadian and U.S. wheat in the past five years.
- It will study all factors affecting wheat trade between Canada and the U.S., including prices, exchange rates, transportation, marketing practices and farm policy.
The ITC will submit a confidential report to the USTR by Sept. 24.
The board and Canadian government officials have said publicly they will fight the U.S. challenge vigorously and fully expect to win.
The hearing will begin June 6 at 9:30 a.m. in the ITC building in Washington, D.C.
Requests to appear at the hearing must be submitted to the ITC by May 23. Written submissions will be accepted until June 18.
