North West Terminal Ltd. is planning a one-million bushel expansion to its facility at Unity, Sask.
The $4.8 million project will bring total capacity to 2.2 million bushels, making NWT one of the largest terminals on the Prairies.
The project will be financed by borrowing and by a share offering later this year.
Also, about half the space is expected to be leased to farmers as private storage. NWT has a policy of paying to use the condo space when the owner is not using it.

New hog barns for Man.

Puratone Corp. has the money to build two feeder hog barns in Manitoba this summer, with investment by United Grain Growers and ENSIS Growth Fund and ENSIS Investment Ltd. Partnership.
UGG and ENSIS have completed a $10 million investment in Puratone announced in May.
“We have a business plan that had been on hold because of low hog prices and the need for external capital to drive expansion. Now we will be adding two new 6,400-head feeder hog barns over the summer, as well as infrastructure expansion to accommodate future growth,” said Ab Freig, Puratone chief operating officer, in a news release.
Puratone produces about 10 percent of Manitoba’s hogs and has four feed mills, a boar stud farm and a 25,000-layer chicken operation.

Canadian National Railway officially took control of Illinois Central Railway on July 1, giving it access to the Gulf of Mexico.
Over the next couple of years, CN will integrate Illinois Central’s operation into its own.
CN said in a news release that shippers will not notice significant change during the integration.
