Craig and Charlene Kaartinen of Eriksdale, Man., had a surprise earlier this summer after returning home from town with a load of sisal twine in their cattle trailer.

They could hear Jenny wrens chirping after the truck was turned off but couldn’t find the source.

They looked inside the trailer and underneath the wiring harness before seeing a baby bird poke its head out of the little hole where the trailer hitches to the ball in the back of the truck. Four babies were squawking for their parents, and the trailer was quickly returned to its usual spot so that they could be found by their parents. | Charlene Kaartinen photos
