The 750 striking International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers at Canadian National Railway are back at work after the union and company agreed to binding arbitration.

The three-week strike saw workers representing the signal and communication branch of the company take to the picket line last month after contract negotiations begun last fall broke down.

Wages and benefits were at issue with IBEW and CN trading barbs during the dispute over the still yet to be resolved issues, with the union calling for “anti-scab” legislation to be passed after the company continued operations with replacement workers.

The company directly appealed to workers in a letter from the company’s vice-president outlining what CN called a fair deal for union members.

The 750 workers are expected back on the job today.
