SASKATOON (Staff) – The mid-July storm that hammered farms and destroyed dairy barns and silos outside Saskatoon will cost the provincial insurance company about $3 million.

But even though the severe storm caused damage estimated at $2.3 million so far, this summer’s total costs for SGI are only half of what they were last year at this time.

Wind the biggest culprit

A series of severe storms had caused more than $8 million in damages then, compared to $4.3 million this year.

The damage to Saskatoon, Osler, Warman and Hague was caused mainly by the wind. Bins were crumpled, silos decapitated and barns collapsed.
