Ed Tyrchneiwicz, John Whitaker and Nick Carter spent their summer listening to Manitobans’ views on the livestock industry.
They had originally planned to give the government a list of recommendations by the end of October on how to expand the livestock industry without harming the environment.
But the writing stage is taking longer than anticipated, said Tyrchneiwicz, the agricultural economist who chaired the livestock stewardship review panel.
“There’s a lot of issues,” he said.
“But I’m bound and determined we’re not going to have a 300-page report. In a way, 300 pages would be easier to do.”
He now hopes to hand in the report by the end of November.
Stewardship jobs
Meanwhile, Manitoba Agriculture has advertised for five new livestock stewardship jobs.
Deputy minister Don Zasada said the jobs were conceived in time for last spring’s budget, and are not directly connected to the province’s livestock stewardship review.
The term positions, lasting until April 2002, are in Carman, Brandon, Morris and Winnipeg. Titles include:
- Land use planning specialist.
- Nutrient management specialist.
- Land stewardship specialist.
- Livestock environmental engineer.
