Zeneca Seeds is changing its name.
The company, known best on the Prairies for its hybrid canola varieties, will be known as Advanta Canada Inc.
There will be no change to brand names such as Hyola, Hysyn, Option and HyLite canola, Garst corn and Interstate sunflower.
The name change is the result of the joint venture between Zeneca Seeds, based in Britain, and Royal VanderHave Group, based in the Netherlands.
In addition to its canola research program, which recently introduced canola without flower petals to counteract sclerotinia, it has expanded research into short-season corn.

Aboriginal business people have access to a new small loan program offered by the First Nations Bank of Canada assisted by the office of Western Economic Diversification.
The bank will provide up to $10 million in loans.
The maximum amount that can be loaned is $25,000 with the average at $10,000-$15,000. There are repayment terms up to five years.
The program will be targeted at entrepreneurs who lack the assets and capital required by traditional lenders.
Western Economic Development will provide up to $2 million to cover loan losses.
The agency will also offer its resources to help applicants fine-tune business proposals to help them increase their prospects of getting a loan.
