Yara International has received Canadian and American federal regulatory approval for its purchase of Saskferco Products, which owns the nitrogen fertilizer plant at Belle Plaine, Sask.

Mosaic Co. and Investment Saskatchewan, which had owned Saskferco Products, announced July 14 that they had sold the plant to Yara International of Oslo, Norway, in a deal worth $1.6 billion.

The company, to be called Yara Belle Plaine Inc., will continue to be headquartered in Regina and will retain its management team.

Yara president Thorleif Enger said the plant complements the company’s existing North American holdings, and Yara is committed to its growth and expansion.
