The Saskatchewan Party submitted its application for official party status last week after gathering 2,661 signatures on petitions.
The party, which already had official opposition status in the legislature, needed 2,500 signatures made up of 100 or more signatures from 10 different constituencies, to make the application to the province’s chief electoral officer. All 10 constituencies included in the Saskatchewan Party’s petition are rural.
Formed by eight former Tory and Liberal MLAs, the new party also announced its founding convention and policy forum will be held Nov. 15-16 in Saskatoon.
“Over the next few weeks, our MLAs and our policy committee will engage in province-wide consultation with the general public about the new direction they would like to see for our party and our province,” said spokesperson Elwin Hermanson.
“These ideas will form the basis for an initial draft policy document that will be discussed and debated at the November meeting.”
