REGINA (Staff) – A second used oil recycling facility opened in Saskatchewan last month.

Wolverine Resources at Humboldt can process up to 30 million litres of used oil each year, said Fred Bowditch, who owns the plant along with Harold Fraser and Jerome Pratchler.

The $4.5 million plant, which was financed entirely by private money, produces refinery stock, Bowditch said.

“It is enhanced refinery stock to be completed at a plant like the (Newgrade) upgrader in Regina,” where it is used to produce other petroleum products, he said.

After 13 hours of operation, Bowditch said the plant was working well.

“It’s all new technology that’s never been used anywhere in the world,” he said.

Wolverine gets its used oil from collection depots throughout Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba. Bowditch said the facility welcomes Saskatchewan’s new collection system.

“We will fit in very well with that,” he said. “We hope to be working with the eco-centres.”
