SASKATOON – Saskatchewan Wheat Pool is now the sole owner of Dawn Foods Canada.
The pool paid approximately $14 million to buy out its U.S.-based partner in the bakery filling and topping company. The deal, which was signed Dec. 22, is retroactive to Aug. 1.
“Diversification is a major thrust for the company, so increasing our stake in a successful business like Dawn Foods Canada can only strengthen the pool,” said Bill Hunt, manager of the pool’s food and industrial group.
Dawn Foods Canada was created in 1993 when the pool entered into a joint venture with Dawn Foods Products Inc., a U.S. manufacturer and distributor of bakery supplies.
The pool’s CSP division manages and operates all of Dawn Foods Canada’s plants, located in Saskatoon, LaPrairie, Que., and Etobicoke and Colborne, Ont.
