A Saskatchewan trade mission is in China until Sept. 4 to explore agricultural trade opportunities.

Agriculture minister Eric Upshall is participating in the Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership mission, as are representatives from Canada Livestock Services at Marsden and Brandt Industries in Regina.

Several contacts

The group will meet with livestock companies in Beijing; Hohhot, Mongolia and Jinan, Shandong province.

Upshall will also visit the province of Jilin, which is twinned with Saskatchewan, to discuss the sixth in a series of two-year agreements for continued relations. The minister and Jilin officials will discuss the possibility of an exchange of young farmers between the two provinces.

“We will also meet with representatives of grain handling companies and dairy corporations,” Upshall said in a news release. “It is my objective to examine the agricultural industry in China as thoroughly as time will permit with a view to identifying additional initiatives in which our producers can become involved.”
