A $150,000 appropriation in the Saskatchewan agriculture budget this year will pay to clean up a contaminated crown lease site.
The remediation cost comes at a site where a previous agricultural lessee had burned copper wire, resulting in dioxin and furon contamination, according to the ministry.
Preliminary cleanup was done by piling, tarping and fencing the area, but further reclamation work is required.
The ministry had previously identified the reclamation need and the expense was accounted for in a previous year, so it will have no impact on expenses for 2022-23, it said.
