The Saler’s Association of Canada members have voted to adopt a program designed to monitor and promote the performance and use of Salers genetics in crossbred beef production.
The Optimizer program has been used in the United States by the American Salers Association.
Salers’ maternal and beef traits, combined with hybrid vigour, have been shown to be of benefit in production of high quality, high yielding beef carcasses.
Salers can also increase fertility and herd health while reducing management inputs, such as labour and veterinarian expenses.
The Canadian association named new members to its board of directors at its annual general meeting held in Carstairs, Alta., July 10:
• President: Gerald McGee, Richmond, Que.,
• Vice-president: Ken Sweetland, Lundar, Man.
• Treasurer: Brian Jones , Okotoks, Alta.
• Directors: Wayne Sereda, Big Valley, Alta., Tammi Eisner, Gatineau, Que., Paul Hondl, Bowden, Alta.
