The struggle with soggy fields is complete and with the crop in the ground and the sun in the sky, it is time for farm families to enjoy their country life.
The Western Producer is
following three families through this growing season – the Carritts of Manitoba, the Kindrachuks of Saskatchewan and the Nahirniaks of Alberta.
All had delays this spring due to excess moisture, but luckily the skies cleared, the crops are now growing and cattle are on lush pasture.
When our reporters visited the families in early June, they were taking a little breather
before the next set of tasks such as haying and spraying.
Our stories about the families this week focus on different things, but the unifying
element is an explanation of why the families chose farming as a way to make a living.
It all comes down to giving their children the opportunity to grow up in a close family
environment and in touch with nature.
