A new task force will tell the federal government by month’s end what

is needed to launch an ethanol industry in Saskatchewan.

They will rely heavily on information garnered from a one-day

Saskatchewan Agrivision Corporation conference held here Jan. 30. The

400 participants heard about an expanding ethanol industry in Minnesota

and what is needed to get the industry off the ground here.

“Saskatchewan Agrivision is just a catalyst to get this value-added

industry moving ahead,” said SAC president C.M. (Red) Williams, who

also chaired the meeting. SAC works with the private and public sectors

to advance agribusiness opportunities in Saskatchewan.

Williams said the meetings showed the complexity of the industry and

the amount of effort and consultation required for it to move ahead. It

will involve working with petroleum companies, environmentalists,

government and bankers.

He supported the launch of new ethanol plants in Canada and challenged

the audience “to move ahead in a logical way,” calling the task force

report and conference one step in the process.
