The way to a healthy heart is through the stomach. A healthy diet promotes general well-being, but research shows some food has a particular role in preventing disease.

The federal government recognizes the science behind such food health claims but wants to assess and regulate them to ensure consumers are not misled.

The Western Producer’s Adrian Ewins reports that food producers see health claims as an opportunity to spark increased consumption of their products. However, the approval process is complicated and expensive, particularly in Canada, putting producers here at a disadvantage.
