RCMP are still looking for leads in the search for Copper, a Shetland pony stolen near Meacham, Sask.

Copper was taken between Sept. 19 and 20.

The pony is brown with a white patch on its head and was wearing a pink halter at the time of the theft.

“Shetland ponies aren’t work horses, they’re a pet,” said cpl. Randy Wittig of the Humboldt RCMP detachment. “It’s like someone stealing your dog,”

It is unclear what the pony is worth or if the thieves would be able to sell it.

U.S. government investigates high input costs

The USDA and DOJ are investigating high input costs, but nothing is happening in Canada.

“I supervise all the files here, so 99 percent of the stuff that happens comes through me and this is the first one I can recall of any horse being taken from that area,” Wittig said.

The theft has sparked outrage in the community. Phones at the Humboldt RCMP detachment have been “ringing off the hook,” he said.

Anyone with information on the pony’s whereabouts is urged to call the Humboldt RCMP at 306-682- 2535 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222- 8477.
