Saskatchewan pulse producers benefit from research to the tune of $20 for every $1 invested.
Saskatchewan Pulse Growers (SPG) hired University of Saskatchewan professor Richard Gray to update his 2003 study, Returns on Producer Investments in Pulse Crop Research.
The updated study calculates a $20.19 return on investment for every $1 of check-off money invested in research, up from $15.06 in 2003.
“This suggests the SPG program has become more productive over time, which is likely due to the accumulation of knowledge and germplasm within research organizations,” Gray said in an SPG news release.
SPG executive director Garth Patterson said this shows the research his organization is funding is benefitting growers.
“This tells us we’re going in the right direction,” he said in the news release.
