WINNIPEG (Staff) – The manager of the J.M. Schneider Inc. plant in Winnipeg said the “good relationship” it has with Manitoba Pork is one reason his company decided to expand in the province.
“We have not been advocates of dual marketing,” Bill McLean said. The company recently announced it will invest $40 million into a new plant.
In a letter sent to hog producers this week, McLean said the company believes Manitoba Pork “must remain in place to provide the leadership necessary to achieve the goals of the pork industry.”
But McLean said in an interview that producers will decide how they market their hogs. “This is strictly a producer thing,” he said. “It won’t be decided by me and it’s won’t really be decided by the government either.”
