SASKATOON (Staff) — Westco Fertilizer isn’t stopping at just disseminating research on its new computer database.
While farmers will be able to search out information on a variety of topics with AgroFacts, Westco is planning on adding a modelling feature to the computer program.
Farmers will be able to do up to 10 least-cost analyses of various kinds of fertilizer (including those sold by Westco’s competition) with the AgroBlend calculator. For example, farmers will be able to compare the costs of elemental versus granular versus crystallized sulphur.

A PhD student at the University of Saskatchewan has been working on developing a method of detecting fusarium damaged kernels to ease the struggles of producers, agronomists and industry.
Similarly, the AgroMax calculator will tell a farmer how to achieve maximum crop yields based on a recent soil test. Farmers who sent their soil tests through NorWest Labs in Edmonton or Plains Innovative Laboratory Services in Saskatoon will be able to request a Westco recommendation based on the company’s 25 years worth of fertilizer yield responses.
And the AgroPlan calculator will combine all of the other three features to help farmers plan their yearly fertilizer needs on a field-by-field basis.
Farmers will be able to access AgroBlend and AgroMax later this spring, but will have to wait until next fall to try out AgroPlan.
