Pioneer Grain Ltd. will collaborate with local investors to build a high through-put elevator and farm service centre in Killarney, Man.
The company will be the major shareholder in the project and the local economic development group will raise the rest.
“What makes this venture unique for Pioneer is that for the first time the company will be offering a partnership opportunity to interested investors,” said Curt Vossen, president of James Richardson International, Pioneer’s parent company.
A prospectus has yet to be filed with the Manitoba Securities Commission and project details will not be released until then, said a company spokesperson.
However, the Killarney facility is expected to be similar to others the company is building, which have capacities of between 16,000 and 18,000 tonnes, and cost in the range of $7 million to $10 million.
Construction at Killarney should begin next year.
Pioneer has two other projects under way in Manitoba, at Roblin and Brunkild. In Saskatchewan, construction is taking place at Swift Current, Crooked River and Watrous.
