REGINA (Staff) – The day after 154 marketing agents completed their contracts with Saskatchewan Crop Insurance Corporation, toll-free telephone lines took their place.

The agriculture department has announced each of the corporation’s 21 customer service offices has its own toll-free number as of Aug. 1. The government announced last February that, as part of cost-cutting measures, contracts with the marketing agents would not be renewed when they expired July 31.

The 1-888 toll-free lines will operate year-round from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and voice mail service will be available after 5 p.m. on weekdays, weekends and holidays.

Agriculture minister Eric Upshall said the lines will be open for extended hours during busy farming times to allow customers access to information or to register claims.
