Pesticide application needs licence

Red Deer area resident Greg Lovell has been ordered to pay a $7,000 fine for spraying pesticide without the proper license three times and for providing false documents to an Alberta Environment investigator.

On July 1, 2003, Lovell sprayed

2,4-D on a leased property without a renewed pesticide applicator’s licence. A neighbour complained to Alberta Environment about damaged maple trees and the department later investigated, it said in a News release

Lovell provided a false record suggesting his customer had been responsible for the application, but later admitted he lied. He was also working without insurance or a valid pesticide applicator’s license, said the release.
