SASKATOON (Staff) – Intercontinental Packers Ltd. in Saskatoon is closing its retail sales arm in California to concentrate on expanding the Canadian market east of Manitoba.
“The U.S. market has become more competitive in recent years and while we are refocusing our attention, we are not giving up the U.S. market,” said Intercon vice-president Russ Baker. He added the company will still wholesale its Mitchell’s Gourmet Foods line in the U.S.
The change will eliminate two jobs in Los Angeles and will not affect employment in Saskatoon.
Canadian demand for the recently introduced line of gourmet meats grew by more than 50 percent during 1995, the company said.
