SASKATOON (Staff) — Saskatchewan municipalities will get a financial break from government when controlling beavers.
Under a new program, the provincial government will provide municipalities with grants worth 50 percent of the cost of beaver-related channel maintenance.
A total of $260,000 has been allocated to beaver control for this year. This includes the cost of dynamite and culvert screens. The government will also share the cost of a subsidy for the removal of beavers during fur season.
Several municipalities have experienced flood damage to agricultural lands and roads because of an abundant beaver population.
