Morris Industries will spend $1 million to expand its production plant at Minnedosa, Man.
The building addition and new equipment will allow the company to do complete fabrication of its Eight Series air carts and ProAg large square bale handling equipment.
Some parts are now made at the company’s plant in Yorkton, Sask., and transported to Minnedosa, said communications manager Graham Gardner.
The new equipment in Minnedosa will include a media blast chamber, improving the plant’s ability to prepare metal surfaces for painting. Construction is expected to be complete and equipment commissioned by February.

Gardner said the expansion will allow the company to increase full-time employment at the plant, although actual numbers depend partly on the availability of labour, which is in short supply because of the lure of the Alberta boom.
“We struggle to keep welders and machinists anyways,” he said.
The expansion will also improve the company’s ability to pick up contract work from other equipment manufacturers.
“When you are making farm machinery, which is seasonal, if you can plug in other types of equipment from other manufacturers, then you can fill the void,” he said.
