The United States has more than doubled the amount of soybeans it has shipped to the European Union over the past year.
According to the latest figures announced by the European Commission this week, the U.S. suppled 52 percent of the crop to the EU. That is an increase of 133 percent compared to the same period in the previous year from July to mid-September.
The EU imports about 14 million tonnes of soybeans per year.
European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker issued a joint statement with U.S. President Donald Trump in July, in which the two sides agreed to increase trade in several areas, including soybeans.
