OTTAWA (Staff) — Despite the Liberal government’s promise of an improved rural postal service, a New Democratic Party MP says the post office is up to its old tricks.
Len Taylor (The Battlefords-Meadow Lake) complained that a Canada Post decision to process mail on a five-day week and not seven days a week will mean that Saturday delivery for rural residents will end.
He said the post office is sacrificing rural service for profits.
“The Canada Post management that decided to end Saturday service are the same people who designed and implemented the former rural post office closure policy and frankly, I don’t think they should be allowed to cut services any further. They should be replaced.”
