Elevators are popping across the Prairies faster than gophers can dig holes.
Cargill has started work on its $11 million farm service centre in Rycroft.
The Peace River country concrete elevator will have almost 20,000 tonnes of storage capacity, a grain cleaning and drying facility and an initial rail spot for 52 cars with room to expand to 104 cars.
The service centre will also include a chemical storage shed, overhead blending tower and fertilizer storage shed.
Further south, Alberta Pool will build a high throughput elevator at Acheson, just west of Edmonton. The $11 million project includes a 26,000 tonne capacity concrete elevator, a dryer and grain cleaner and will be able to load 100-car trains.

Agpro builds
In the southern corner of the province, Agpro Grain, a subsidiary of Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, has announced it will build a 33,000 tonne facility at Wilson Siding, south of Lethbridge.
It’s the first of six facilities AgPro will build in Alberta and 22 across the Prairies, for a total cost of $235 million.
Agpro’s other Alberta facilities will be built in Vulcan, Crossfield, Trochu, Killam and Lavoy.
Pioneer Grain has begun construction of an 18,000 tonne high throughput elevator and farm service centre at Lamont, near Edmonton.
The concrete elevator will be build on CN’s mainline and have a 52-car spot, dual driveway, bulk fertilizer blender and crop warehouse
