Topigs Canada Inc. has bought the hog genetics business operations and assets of Maple Leaf Agri-Farms.
The deal includes the assets of Lean Team International, a marketing arm of the genetics business, along with a nucleus farm in Manitoba.
The two companies have also formalized an agreement in which Topigs Canada supplies genetics to Maple Leaf Agri-Farms’ hog production operations.
“Topigs has a strong reputation as a world leader in swine genetics and we are pleased that the company recognized the value in our genetics business and our people,” Maple Leaf Agri-Farms Genetics vice-president Glen Gratton said in a news release.

Topigs has subsidiaries, agents and distributors in more than 30 countries.
It is part of the Pigture Group based in Vught, Netherlands, and produces more than a million gilts per year and more than six million doses of semen.
Topigs exports worldwide from its specific pathogen-free nucleus farms in Saskatchewan.
