The Manitoba government and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency are funding the free pickup of dead cattle and other ruminants in the province.
The service is available immediately in designated areas and ends April 30.
It is a repeat of last year’s program, which Manitoba agriculture minister Rosann Wowchuk said helped the province surpass its goal for BSE testing in cattle and demonstrated that the province remains BSE free. The program also saved producers the cost of disposing of dead ruminant carcasses, she added.
Pickup this year will be limited to areas that can provide disposal grounds. The pick-up area will be expanded if additional disposal sites become available.
Local Manitoba Agriculture offices can provide more information.
