The cheques are in the mail.

Final payments under the Canada Manitoba Adjustment Program 2, or CMAP2, were mailed to Manitoba grain, oilseed and specialty crop farmers starting Oct. 30.

Manitoba agriculture minister Rosann Wowchuk said 16,973 Manitoba farmers will receive final payments under the program.

The payment to an average-sized farm of 800 to 1,000 acres will be about $2,800.

That will push the total payments under CMAP2 to about $9,000 for a farmer seeding 800 to 1,000 acres, according to Manitoba Agriculture.

The CMAP2 assistance is shared with the federal government as part of the national farm aid package announced last March.

A total of $92 million will be paid under the program to help Manitoba producers experiencing low commodity prices and high input costs.

Wowchuk said $260,750 will also be paid to 161 beginning farmers under an adjustment to CMAP2.
