Jeannette and Hugh Greaves, who farm near Deerwood, Man., were recently offered a second growth barley field as much-needed feed for their cattle.
The Greaves accepted and had the crop custom cut and silaged earlier this month while the weather was still co-operative.
They had the barley tested for nitrates before swathing and the results were extremely low.
