SASKATOON (Staff) – The joint Canadian-U.S. commission on cereal grains wants to hear from farmers and the grain industry.
Following a meeting in Winnipeg Dec. 14, the commission said it wants to receive written briefs by the end of January.
Briefs should relate to regulatory requirements, infrastructure, domestic support programs, trade agreement provisions, general economic programs and export programs including border controls, export competition and export promotion.
At the Winnipeg meeting, the 10 panel members conducted an overview of the marketing, distribution and handling systems in each country.

Canadian co-chair Bill Miner said in a press release the two sides were able to contrast the grain systems on a national and regional basis.
The commission, set up under the Canada-U.S. wheat pact signed this summer, is to examine all aspects of the two countries’ marketing and support systems for all grains and the effect of those systems on domestic and foreign markets.
