Interim payments on most grades of wheat, durum and designated barley will be made by the Canadian Wheat Board for grain delivered in the 1997-98 crop year.

The board announced Oct. 8 that the federal government has approved payments for No. 1 and 2 Canadian Western red spring wheat of $8 per tonne.

The payment for No. 3 CW red spring is $6 a tonne.

All grades of durum except No. 5 will see $6 a tonne payments.

Payments of $6 a tonne will also be made on all grades of CPS red and white wheats, extra strong and red winter.

A payment of $4 a tonne will be made on all grades of soft white spring except for No. 3.

All grades of designated barley will see a $4 a tonne payment. There is no interim payment for feed barley and feed wheat.

Payments will be sent the week beginning Oct. 19. Those with direct deposit arrangements should see their accounts credited Oct. 20. For those who don’t, cheques will be mailed Oct. 23.
