ROSENFELD, Man. – Construction of a 1,200 sow and weanling hog barn has gained approval of the Rural Municipality of Rhineland.

The application was denied by a neighboring municipality this summer.

The barn, owned by Harry Klassen and Mark Milne, is expected to be built on 80 acres northeast of here. The proposal, known as K-Line Pigs Inc., must meet 12 conditions laid out by the Rhineland council.

These include a lagoon with a minimum 20 month storage capacity, manure injection, straw covering on the lagoon, responsibility for all approaches, cost of initial road graveling, and responsibility for the total cost of municipal water hookup.

There are no residences within 1.5 kilometres of the approved location.

Milne said there should be pigs in the new barn in November and complete construction should be done by the end of January. It will provide three and a half jobs.
