WINNIPEG (Staff) – A Manitoba task force will travel from Melita to The Pas and 24 towns in between to find ways to increase food exports.
A task force, comprised of rural MLAs Jack Penner, Merv Tweed and Frank Pitura, will gather opinions in February and March. They will listen to invited rural speakers who have ideas on how to add value to Manitoba products, and draft a report by April.
The provincial government wants to increase Manitoba’s exports by $1 billion in the next 10 years.
“I am challenging all those involved in the agri-food sector of the economy to come together with us in the next few months to find ways of meeting and surpassing that goal,” said Manitoba agriculture minister Harry Enns.
