Herbert Heimbecker, the patriarch of family-owned grain business Parrish & Heimbecker, died suddenly on Oct. 14 at the age of 79. He was living in Toronto.
Heimbecker was the nephew of Norman Heimbecker, who started the company in Winnipeg in 1909 with his partner W. L. Parrish.
Herbert Heimbecker ran the company’s trading office in Toronto through most of his career. He was the company’s chair at the time of his death.
Parrish and Heimbecker operates country elevators in Western Canada and Ontario, a terminal in Thunder Bay, a small shipping business, and Butter Ball turkey processors.
