Ag in Motion 2025 had its first annual junior cattle show on July 15. The show hosted more than 20 exhibitors ranging from ages six to 21.

There were three main components for the show: judging, showmanship and the different classes of cattle.

The judging portion was judged by Kurtis Reid. The rest of the show was judged by Baxter Blair.

Moe’s outlook on Carney, trade challenges

SASKATOON — Scott Moe is in a conciliatory mood. Moe had plenty of kind things to say recently about Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, which wasn’t the case with Carney’s predecessor Justin Trudeau.

Of the different age groups for the judging competition — pee wee, junior, intermediate, and senior — intermediate was the biggest group with nine participants. Kaelen Sutter from Kelvington, Sask., took home first place from this group, a feat she is proud of since she is the youngest one in the group at 13 years old.

“I expected to do good, but not to win. There’s a lot of good judges,” Sutter said.

When judging, there are a lot of different aspects she looks for that make up a winning animal.

“Balance, their depth, their length, the spine, for heifers, if they’re feminine or not, how they walk,” she said.

Sutter would be interested in pursuing judging seriously.

“I like to judge, so I think so,” she said when asked if she saw a future for herself as a judge.

The different classes of cattle showed exhibitors of all ages with cattle of many different breeds.

Blair, a young judge who grew up showing cattle and now operates his own media company, Double B Media, where he showcases cattle and cattle shows, gave a shout out to Ag in Motion for putting on the show. He said having more junior shows available for young exhibitors allows them opportunity to grow their skills.

“Hat’s off to you,” he said.

Owen Willms and Wilbar Cattle Co. took home the supreme grand champion female, and Morgan Sutter took home reserve grand champion female. For the bulls, Alannah Wood and Brookhill Farms were the winners of the supreme grand champion bull. Dakota VanMetre took home supreme grand champion jackpot steer.
