A group of 12 farmers were fined for crossing the border without proper export documents when they delivered grain into the United States July 10, 1996.

They were each fined $2,500 last week for removing vehicles that had been seized by Canada Customs. Nine farmers from that group were also fined $5,000 each for failing to produce a Canadian Wheat Board export licence to sell grain.

The same group was in court earlier last fall for shipping grain without an export permit last April. The farmers were fined $4,000 each for similar offences. Their case is slated for appeal Oct. 2.
