The initial payment for feed barley sold through the Canadian Wheat Board has gone up $8 a tonne, effective July 7.
The board announced July 4 that the federal government had approved the increase.
With the increase, the payment for No. 1 CW barley is $145 a tonne, basis in-store Vancouver or St. Lawrence.
The increase does not apply to tough and damp grain. In fact the discount for tough has been increased to $14 a tonne from $6 and for damp grain the discount has increased to $20.50 from $12.50.
Adjustment cheques will be mailed the week of July 14. For those who have made direct deposit arrangements, payments will be credited to most accounts on July 15.
