SASKATOON (Staff) – Farmers and weather watchers can stay tuned to updated forecasts with Environment Canada’s Weatheradio.

The national network of radio stations, operated by the federal department, continuously transmits the latest local weather information over the VHF-FM band.

Although Weatheradio isn’t new, it isn’t well-known, said Bob Cormier, an Environment Canada meteorologist in Saskatoon.

People can access the service by buying a special weatheradio that is tuned to the weather station, which has a special alert feature. If a weather warning is put on the air it transmits a tone to alert the listener.

Listeners can also use two-way radios tuned to frequencies of the weather station. The weather reports are updated every hour, 24 hours a day.
