OTTAWA — Seven prairie 4-H members will have some financial help from Farm Credit Corp. when they take post-secondary studies next autumn.
Each year for the next three years, the federal farm lender is offering $1,000 scholarships to 16 4-H members across Canada to continue their education.
Two of those scholarships will be available in Alberta, three in Saskatchewan, two in Manitoba and three in Ontario. British Columbia and the rest of the provinces will receive one each.
To qualify, interested 4-H members must submit a 500-1,000 word essay on one of three topics: The importance of agriculture in Canada, agriculture and the environment or why rural Canada should be supported.
The scholarships will begin April 1.
In a joint statement with the national 4-H Council, FCC chair Jim Hewitt said it was an effort by the crown corporation to help “future farmers” obtain an education.
