Farmers finalists for marketing awards

SASKATOON — Three farmers have been chosen finalists in the export category for the Estevan Business Excellence Awards.

It’s the first year farmers have been nominated for the EBEX awards, said Phil Mamchur, director of economic development for the city of Estevan, Sask.

  • Circle T Limousin breeds and markets purebred livestock with the goal of selling high-quality females and bulls in a large market. Lyall Tedford said their export strategy is to show their animals at as many livestock shows and national and international Limousin events as possible. About 40 percent of their sales are from outside Saskatchewan.

    Agriculture ministers commit to enhancing competitiveness

    Canadian ag ministers said they want to ensure farmers, ranchers and processors are competitive through ongoing regulatory reform and business risk management programs that work.

  • Jack Pick Farms breeds and markets purebred black and polled Maine-Anjou cattle. Jack Pick said their export strategy is to attend shows and sales throughout North America and to advertise their quality products in agriculture magazines. About 80 percent of their sales are outside Saskatchewan.
  • Ross’ L-Seven Ranch breeds and markets purebred cattle, commercial cattle and operates a feedlot. Brian Ross said their export strategy is to exhibit their product in premier livestock shows in Canada and the United States. About 50 percent of the company’s sales are outside Saskatchewan, up from their initial objective of 30 percent.
