SASKATOON — Initial payments for good quality durum wheat have been increased by $25 a tonne.
Agriculture minister Ralph Goodale announced the new higher prices will go into effect June 10. Money owed to farmers for durum sold to the board since last Aug. 1 will be mailed out at the end of June.
Payments have been hiked by $25 a tonne for the top three grades of CW amber durum. The increase is $20 a tonne for 4 CWAD and $5 for 5 CWAD.
Even with the increase, there is still room for a final payment for this year’s sales. The wheat board has projected a total 1993-94 price of $235 a tonne for 1 CWAD, which is $32 above the new initial.
All prices quoted are basis in-store at Vancouver or Thunder Bay. Farmgate prices are lower by the cost of handling and transportation at specific locations.
