A training initiative in Saskatchewan, helping people develop the skills to work in digital agriculture, is seeking employers.
The Palette Skills Digital Agriculture Specialist Program prepares people for jobs in farm robotics, agriculture automation and high tech roles in food processing.
“With 130 hours of hands-on and project-based learning, participants in the program are ready to hit the ground as digital agriculture leaders, working with emerging technologies such as GIS, IoT (Internet of Things), drones, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and big data,” stated a program document.

Agri-business and farms front and centre for Alberta’s Open Farm Days
Open Farm Days continues to enjoy success in its 14th year running, as Alberta farms and agri-businesses were showcased to increase awareness on how food gets to the dinner plate.
The University of Saskatchewan, Protein Industries Canada, and EMILI, the Enterprise Machine Intelligence and Learning Initiative, are partners in the training.
Residents of Saskatchewan are eligible to apply for the Digital Agriculture Specialist Program.
Palette Skills, a national non-profit organization, is managing the program.
“(It) is designed to equip people, who already have some post-secondary education, with the skills required for jobs in the agricultural industry, said Ednali Zehavi, program manager at Palette Skills, in 2022.
The first trainees went through the eight-week program last year and 10 out of 18 are employed in higher skill jobs within the agriculture and agri-food industry.
Palette Skills will hold two virtual networking events this winter so employers can learn more about the opportunity.
The first is Feb. 10 and the second is scheduled for March 3.
