SASKATOON – Another group of Saskatchewan farmers wants to build a grain terminal they can call their own.
This one is in the works for the Cupar area, just northeast of Regina. About a dozen such projects have been built in the last few years or are in various stages of development in the province.
If all goes according to plan, says spokesperson Bill Huber, the company known as Terminal 22 Ltd. will be buying grain in the summer of 1998.
A feasibility study is now under way, financed by more than $300,000 raised from the sale of preferred shares to 442 area farmers and business people.
Huber said there have been preliminary discussions with all the major grain companies about entering into a partnership.
If the feasibility study is positive, the company will continue to sell preferred Class A shares until the end of the year, with a goal of raising $1 million to finance engineering and design work. Then, Class B common shares would be sold to the public to raise the remaining funds necessary to build the terminal.
