REGINA (Staff) – Several Saskatchewan agricultural companies and the provincial government are contributing $500,000 worth of agricultural technology and expertise to a co-operative farm in Ukraine.
They hope to enhance trade while assisting development of Ukrainian agriculture, said economic development minister Dwain Lingenfelter.
A formal agreement between the Saskatchewan parties and the Main Selection Centre, south of Kiev, was signed earlier this month during a trade mission to Ukraine.
The provincial commitment is worth $113,000, including staff time for specialists who are providing training in Ukraine.
Brandt Industries of Regina, Flexi-Coil Ltd. of Saskatoon and Newfield Seeds Ltd. of Nipawin are contributing a total of $390,000, mostly in equipment, but also in training and services.
The long-term goal is to equip Ukrainian specialists to train people themselves.
