A graveyard near Canwood, Sask., is getting a much-needed upgrade from 12 volunteers.
A fire destroyed wooden crosses and foxes dug around graves, which inspired the group to make plans to erect new metal grave markers.
They also plan to refurbish fencing and post a sign at the Canwood South Cemetery.
Seeking information
Volunteer Barb Benson said she hopes people will come forward with information about the cemetery, its history and occupants before that information is lost forever.
“As a community, we are trying to join together and find out who is buried there,” she said.
Knut Finstrom donated the land for the memorial site in 1920 when his wife died. Benson’s parents are also buried there.
